JCC Seminar ¡Èbehind the scenes¡É with the East West Players
JCC Seminar “behind the scenes” with the East West Players
On July 24th, JCC members visited East West Players as their business seminar. To be more exact, the theater is called the David Henry Hwang Theater at the Union Center for the Arts. The Building used to be the Union Church, now reinforced and reborn as the nation’s premier Asian American theatre, producing outstanding works and educational programs that give voice to the Asian Pacific American experience.
JCC members were greeted by the artistic director, Tim Dang and the cast of Voices from Okinawa; Amy Hill, who has appeared in several films including 50 First Dates with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, and The Cat in the Hat with Mike Myers and Dakota Fanning. She has also appeared on numerous television shows including “Friends,” “Desperate Housewives,” and recently “Grey’s Anatomy.” Amy introduced the rest of Japanese bilingual actors including Sachiko Hayashi, Atsushi Hirata, Teruko Kataoka, Taishi Mizuno, Mari Ueda and Kotaro Watanabe.
They shared with us their stories behind production and impressed us very much with their professionalism and devotion in the making of such plays. Their warm hospitality made us feel like being their family and some of our JCC members walked up onto the stage and experienced what it was like to perform there.
The event also served as our quarterly “New Members Welcome Network” providing chance to have new and old members mingle and have fun together. Thanks to the program sponsored, MOA, Inc., who provided refreshment.
